The Artist Access program at Brooklyn's Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center allows artists, through performances or interactive programs for patients, to exchange their art for health care credits, which are accrued in the artist’s personal account. HospitalBillHelp.org provides a comprehensive listing of public, private and charitable coverage and care options in California. They also provide information on Fair Price discounts: The Fair Pricing Act prohibits hospitals from charging eligible patients more for care than they could charge Medicare. In most cases, this will be 65-85% less than the non-discounted price. The Fair Pricing discount is a legal requirement, and any uninsured person can apply for a Fair Price discount or free care even if the bill has already been sent to a collection agency.

The Artists' Fellowship, Inc. assists professional fine artists (painters, graphic artists, sculptors) and their families in times of emergency, disability, or bereavement.
Administered under the PEN Writers’ Fund, grants of up to $2,000 are given to professional writers and editors who face serious financial difficulties because of HIV or AIDS-related illness.
The PEN Writers’ Fund is an emergency fund for professional— published or produced—writers in acute, emergency financial crisis.
